Matthew Frame is Lecturer for Illustration in Graphic Design at the University of Greenwich and holds an MA in Communication Design from Central St. Martins. His expanded practice puts research at the core of his image making, with special focus placed on independent publishing. Having exhibited extensively both at home and internationally, his enquiry-based practice highlights illustration and design as essential tools to reflect on social issues, convey complex ideas effectively, and critique political ideologies.
Matthew’s recently published article and illustration for Beneficial Shock Magazine explores folk horror through the lens of Derek Jarman’s 1977 film Jubilee. Citing masonic rites and architecture, ley lines, psychogeography and the gentrification of London’s dockside, the writing & artwork offer alternate perspectives on the city, concrete and glass masking an esoteric past resonating through time.
